Cousins Fraser and Fred Alexander formed Fraser Alexander in 1912, as a tailings deposition service to the Witwatersrand’s emerging gold mining industry. Even then, our innovative nature was obvious, as we were the first to use cocopans to remove tailings from processing plants. Soon we were managing 70% of the dumps in the region.
Over the following century, we raised the practice of residue and tailings management to a science, delivering best-practice solutions to locations across Africa, the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia. In this time, we also expanded our service offering and in 2006, we were acquired by Royal Bafokeng Holdings, the investment arm of the Royal Bafokeng Nation.

Ditabe joined Fraser Alexander as Chief Financial Officer on 2 January 2016. Before this, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Merafe Resources Limited. Ditabe’s career spans multiple industries, including mining, media and private equity. He serves on the board committees of Resolution Health Medical Scheme, as Chairman of their audit committee, and is a member of their remuneration committee.

Velile Nhlapo has vast knowledge and over 18 years’ experience in platinum and gold mining. He began his career at Gold Fields Limited, where he reached the level of Mine Overseer and Unit Manager before joining Anglo Platinum Limited as a section manager. He also served as Executive for Business Development at Pretoria Portland Cement Limited. Before joining Fraser Alexander, he was the CEO of MOGS Mining Services(which is 100% owned by Royal Bafokeng Holdings). Before this, he served as the General Manager of Styldrift at Royal Bafokeng Platinum Limited after joining RBPlat in January 2012. Velile is also a non-executive director of RBPlats, MOGS, M-Tech and the FA-subsidiary companies in other countries.
PhD Mining Engineering – Wits; B Eng (Hons) Mining Engineering – UP
Jan has 30 years’ experience in various technical and managerial positions in mining engineering and related technical fields. He’s held several executive positions in the Gold Fields Group’s technical services division, including the development and implementation of group strategies within the Carbon, Energy and Water Management area. At the end of 2013 he re-joined the University of Pretoria as Chair of Sasol’s Mining Safety, Health and Environment team. He currently serves on several boards within the mining industry.

Brian Harvey completed his articles as a chartered accountant at Ernst and Young and in 2014 he was appointed Finance Director of Royal BafokengHoldings. He has extensive experience in various roles, including that of Financial Director of Lake International Technologies (a division of AECI) and Senior Operations Finance Manager for Atlatsa Resources and Anglo American.

Rosalie is currently the Managing Director for Marumofase Forensics, a risk management, forensic investigation, labour support and consulting business. Marumofase provides her range of services across the public, private and public sectors. She also chairs SJSM Energy Investments and serves as a member of the finance board of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, where she is the designated Deputy Provincial Registrar.
BSc (Hons) Geology – Wits
Keith Scott is a geologist with over 20 years’ experience in the mining industry, spanning the mining value chain from exploration and evaluation, to feasibility and production. Keith is a mineral exploration and evaluation specialist with extensive experience across Africa and the globe on multi-disciplinary minerals projects. This experience includes tenure and permitting, geology, mineral resources and reserves, mining, processing, infrastructure, risk and financial analysis and environmental social governance.
BCom (CTA) – Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Chartered Accountant (SA)
Mark Moffett has 25 years’ experience in all aspects of mining finance. This includes multiple senior financial positions in various parts of the world with Anglo American, De Beers and, most recently, Xstrata plc, where he held the position of Group Controller in Switzerland. Following the completion of the merger of Xstrata with Glencore, he returned to South Africa as an independent consultant.

Fred Sutherland joined Fraser Alexander in 2013 after 25 years in water, environmental and asset management consulting. In these fields, Fred led projects relating to the assessment and management of water and related environmental impacts for the mining industry, as well as Sasol, Sappi and several companies in the heavy industrial field. In the latter part of his career, Fred operated as the Vice President of Africa and then Vice President of Global Corporate Development at Golder Associates. Fred has started, grown and handed over several entrepreneurially orientated IT companies and has sat on the boards of many organisations across Africa. He now occupies the role of Managing Director of Fraser Alexander’s Tailings Division.
Ken Bouch has over 20 years' experience as a Plant Metallurgist, Senior Plant Metallurgist, General Manager, Senior Executive and Executive Director in the mining and extractive metallurgy industries. He has extensive operational, strategic, financial modelling and project experience mainly in the gold, uranium, environmental and mine water treatment sectors. Ken joined Fraser Alexander in July 2011 and was appointed Executive Head of Business Development in 2016.

Mabore Sithole has 18 years' experience in human resources and talent management. She joined Fraser Alexander as Group Human Resources Director in 2013. Prior to this, she filled the roles of Human Resources Director at Otis Southern Africa and Senior Manager of HR Operations at Sasol Mining.

Xoliswa Mpongoshe-Makasi has a legal background with over 20 years work experience. She joined Fraser Alexander on 09 January 2017 as the Legal & Company Secretariat. Xoliswa has worked in various roles including in-house General Counsel, Compliance Officer and Company Secretariat and for various sectors such as public and private sectors, voluntary associations as well as listed and unlisted entities both locally and internationally. Her career has taken her to many countries across the globe, including Ghana, Mauritius, Tunisia, Kenya, Tanzania, China, Russia, Netherlands, USA, France and the United Kingdom.
Pr.Eng, B.Eng (Civil), MSAICE
Lourens de Koning is a professional Civil/Geotechnical Engineer with 15 years’ experience in Civil Engineering, Project Management, Leadership and Senior Management roles in the mining services industry. He joined Fraser Alexander as the Chief Operations Officer (COO) on 09 January 2017. His extensive experience includes managing turn-key projects, collaborative project solutions as well as providing technical support to mining divisions. He has previously developed and successfully implemented a mining services vision and strategy with continuous monitoring and adjustments in line with the latest market trends.
